Once upon a time, in animal kingdom, there was a severe famine that almost sent some of the animals into extinction. All the animals decided to kill their old parents in order to live. The dog was very unhappy about this because he loves his only surviving parent ; his mother. While thinking of his mother a thought occurred to him that he could hide his mother in the cloud.
The dog then informed his mother of the animal’s decision. He also told her he was taken her to a hiding place. The following day the dog’s mother woke up very early in the morning and collected he few belongings she had. The dog then took his mother into the cloud and hid her there. In the cloud, the mother found a lot of food, so she was not in need of anything.
The dog’s mother told her son always to sing a particular song whenever ha wanted to see her so that she could let down a ladder from the cloud. Her son was to climb this ladder to where she was. The dog did this for a long time without anybody knowing that his mother was in the cloud.
When it was dog’s turn to kill his mother for other animals to eat, he went and look for the back of a tree and cooked it and other animals ate it, even though some of them complained that the so called meat was tough and not very tasty. The dog continued to visit his mother in the cloud and he was growing fat when other animals were very lean. The tortoise observed the dog’s healthy appearance and wanted to know the cause. After some times, the tortoise succeeded in persuading the dog who later told the tortoise the truth.
The tortoise told the other animals. They fixed a time to go to the spot where the dog usually went to sing a song to his mother. The tortoise sang exactly like the dog so the dog’s mother let down the ladder. The tortoise and the other animals climbed the ladder. The dog’s mother noticed that the rope was unusually heavy and difficult to pull so she suspected foul play .When the animals were about to get to her she saw that her son was not there so she cut the ladder and all the other animals fell and died. It was only the tortoise who survived but with broken shell. The ant took pity on him and tried to bring together the broken shell .As hard as the ant tried, he could not give the tortoise a perfect shell. That accounts for the reason why a tortoise has a rough shell.
