MYTH ABOUT INEKEZE OF AFASIO--Oisamoje O. Oyakhire

The myth is about Inekeze of Afasio, a village on the Auchi-Agenebode road, about 8 kilometres from Auchi. The myth has it that Inekeze, a powerful traditional doctor and warrior did not die. Owing to his spiritual process he had premonition about his death, subsequently he called his wives and told them to give him parting gifts which should include clothes hair, nails etc. He said he would burn the gifts and as the smoke move skywards, he would ascend with the smoke, that he would not die and after some days, he would throw down a spear.
He actually ascended with the smoke and threw down a spear. As a memorial, he is worshipped and celebrated every October when the Inekeze festival is performed. The tip of the spear is visible in the Inekeze shrine and the remaining part of it is buried in the ground. He is regarded as the founder of Afasio in Uzairue, Etsako-West Local Government Areas of Edo State.
