Why the Crab does not have a Head---Kehinde B. Odubanjo

There was a time when all animals could speak. They had Elephant as their king and they chose Crab as his spokesman. Sadly, no animals had his own head. There were lots of heads but an animal never knew which head he was going to wear. One day, it was a big head, another day it was a small head. Sometimes, it was a fine head; other times, it was an ugly head. There were even days when there were not enough heads to go round. Life was difficult without head.
The animals could not put up with the situation any longer. So, they appealed to the King. “Father Elephant,” they said, “please, give us permanent heads.” Elephant, very wise and gracious, seriously considered their plight. Then, by his spokesman, he said “Yes, it is true. You are right and you shall receive heads.” The animals returned home quite happy. Meanwhile, when Crab heard the King, he laughed. “Me,” he said, “I am the spokesman. I am sure of getting the best head.”
The next day, all the animals arrived in good time to take their heads. The Elephant distributed the heads with care. One after the other, the animals returned home, happy to have a head but Crab was not in a hurry. He walked round the forest, passed by the stream and visited the marsh, and enjoyed himself. On the way, he met animals who happily wore their new heads. He greeted them politely and kept strolling around.
At last, at nightfall, he was tired and he returned to the King’s court. But, what a surprise; the king was not there, the court was empty and the king was not there! There were no more heads! The distribution had ended! Without a head, poor Crab could not even cry. Till now, the Crab does not have a head.
