OBITOYE AND ODAN BY OLUWABUNMI ADEOGUN

Once upon a time, there lived two friends; one was named Odan and the other, Obisoye. Obitoye was a very handsome man with a sonorous voice while odan was a very ugly man.  Both of them had been friends for a long time. One day, Odan went to Obisoye to borrow his skin. This was possible in the olden days. Odan told his friend that he had a very important  party  to attend in the seventh village to theirs. Because they were very good friends, Obitoye agreed to lend Odan her skin for three days while he wore Odan’s skin. Unknown to Obitoye, Odan needed a beautiful skin in order to be crowned king in that particular village.
In this village, a handsome person with a smooth skin is usually installed as King. Odan headed for the seventh village where he was eventually enthroned as king because.  After three days, Obitoye expected his friend to return his skin but he waited in vain. After nine days,  Obitoye set out to search for his friend, Odan. Obitoye sang along as he embarked on her journey. The song goes thus:
I am Soye, looking for my friend Odan. Soye!
where has Odan taken my skin to? Soye!
If I am able to collect my skin from Odan, Soye!
My mother would give him one quarter of her property. Soye!
My father would give me one quarter of his property. Soye!
I, Soye, precious one. Soye!
I, Soye, handsome one. soye!
He went on and on till he arrived at the fourth village. The villagers were happy to hear Obitoye's voice. They listened to the lyrics of the song and told him to go to the seventh  village. Obitoye continued with his song as he approached the seventh village. When he got to his destination, the villagers were also happy to hear Obitoye's voice. They came out and started dancing to his song. After a while, some of the villagers went to call their king to also come and listen and dance to the song of the entertainer in their midst.
Odan did not know it was his friend that was singing, he hurried out to dance as well. As soon as Obitoye saw Odan, he pulled his skin from him and gave Odan his skin. The  villagers were astonished as they watched the two young men. Obitoye then narrated the story to the villagers. Odan was dethroned immediately while Obitoye was crowned as king.
